Ballet Basics Entry Level Course Content:

This Ballet Basics Entry Level Course is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in fundamental ballet techniques, focusing on proper alignment, muscle engagement, and a gradual progression from barre to centre to across the floor exercises.  Each element contributes to building a strong  ballet practice, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of the art form. Here is a summary of what you will learn during this course.

Basic Alignment and Muscle Action:

  • Understanding bones and bony points crucial for ballet
  • Mechanics of Turnout
  • Mechanics of Plie
  • Mechanics of Tendu
  • Correct placement of tendu to the side and its importance in all ballet work to the side
  •  

Barre:

  • Demi plie and rise in 1st, 2nd, 5th positions
  • Tendu and Jete en croix 
  • Rond de Jambe endehors with body bends side and flat back
  • Fondu with foot in cou de pied derriere
  • Cou de Pied positions front and back
  • Retire to Retire front and back and Passe retire
  • Grand Battement front and side
  • Arabesque
  • Use of Vaganova turned head in preparation and finish at the barre
  •  

Centre:

  • Port de bras – 1st Vaganova: Breath port de bras from preparatory to demi seconde
  • Use of croisé
  • Temps lie from 1st to 2nd with correct placement of the tendu and 2nd position

  • Saute in 1st, 2nd

  • Polka
  • Galop (chasse) devant and side
